Low gear provides greater torque, allowing the engine to spin at higher RPMs for better power and acceleration, while high gear is designed for cruising efficiency and lower engine stress, resulting in reduced RPMs. Additionally, high gear is meant for maintaining speed rather than rapid acceleration, which further limits the engine's RPM range.
