Self help creates self-determination. It creates a system where the individual who is recieving the help is doing so on their own. Different situations require different help for each individual person. No one solution is uniform for any situation where a person would need help. Therefore, through helping one's self they are reaching their goal on their own accord and learning how to solve their own problems. In the future they will now be better equipped to face any problems that may arise for them. They will also be able to solve their problems in the best way that will fit them. They will not be using someone else's way out.

For example, when graduating high school not every person will solve the problem of how to make a living by going to college. If one person wants to be a doctor the help they recieve would be with getting into a University of some sort. That is not the help needed for every person. Some people may want to be a car mechanic, in which case a vocational school or appretianceship would be best for them. Helping one's self will create better results because only you know what it is that will help you to meet your goals.

This sort of aligns with the saying, "Give a man a fish, he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish, and he will have enough food for a lifetime." If a man learned to help himself and fish on his own, that will last much longer than if some one gives him a fish when he needs to eat.
