Biotic factors are living components of an ecosystem. Predator/prey relationships are dependent on certain biotic factors. If there are no producers (plants, algae, etc), then higher trophic levels will be more scarce.

for instance, if there are no leafy greens, roots, clovers, etc for rabbits, then predators that eat the rabbits will also be scarce.
