I don't think sociology is a discredited discipline or field. I do believe sociology is not as popular as the other social sciences like psychology, political science, history, and economics. Sociology started later than the other social sciences in regards to formal educational study and teaching. Most of the founders of the field majored in law, history and philosophy. Sociology is important because it is the study of human interaction and groups, and human interaction is everything we do. Sociology is the umbrella that the liberal arts disciplines are under because, it studies the totality of human experiences, behaviors, and social structure.
