The capillaries are where the actual transfer of oxygen to the cells happen making it the absolute essential part of the system. The lungs/gills/skin whole job is to get oxygen into the bloodstream so that the capillaries have oxygen to transfer to the cells. The hearts whole job is to supply enough pressure to circulate the blood past the capillaries so it constantly has new oxygenated blood to transfer oxygen to the cells.

∙ 13y agoThe definition of organs is a group of two or more tissues functioning together. That would mean that your veins and arteries are really organs. Their main job is to bring oxygenated blood to the body tissues through the capillaries, and return oxygenated blood to the heart so it can be pumped to the lungs to gain more oxygen and start the cycle all over again. Your body circulates your blood, which can be anywhere from 4-6 quarts, every 40 minutes throughout your body through your blood vessels that can add up to 50,000 miles of tubing if you include the capillaries! Wow! What a job your capillaries have to do? And how amazing is that?
