If I understand what you're asking then, the current developments in computers are actually getting slower. The use of tablets and smart phones are taking over the market. There is advancements though, Intel has a new sandy bridged processor that transfers data faster, hard drives are becoming bigger and bigger, solid states have become popular. The use has always been for business and home users/gamers. This use most likely won't change.
