I think its true because the minor candidate has usually no chance of winning and that vote for him/her could have gone to the two candidates that have a higher chance What is a minor party. Do you mean minority party or something else. I dont think any vote is wasted as long as you believe in that candidate. What is wastes is the thousands of dollars that the others use to compaign because if there are going to do what they say they are going to do, I dont need to see fancy signs and a candidate with a 200.00 hairdo and matching clothes, I NEED to see results and promises kept. No. What should happen is all the third parties should get together and elect a single candidate for each office as one big block. 38% of Americans identify as independents, so together they could get enough votes to put significant pressure to change the voting system to instant run-off voting and allow people to rank candidates and avoid spoiling votes. They actually did that in India when one party dominated and got rid of Indira Ghandhi.
