78 laps. There have been 78 laps in the Monaco Grand Prix since 1967 when it was shortened from 100 laps because the race took too long. It is because of this that the race is the only one on the calendar shorter than the 300km + 1 more lap limit the FIA sets (it is only 260km so that it doesn't take hours!)
Monte Carlo has the smallest capacity of all the circuits at just 37,000 (22,000 grandstands and 15,000 general admission) although unlike other circuits it has a significant non-ticketed attendance. Over the four days of the event it can be estimated quite precisely that there are around 200,000 spectators who follow the grand prix from the grandstands, the balconies of the buildings around the circuit and also from the boats in the harbour
There was no formula one that year and rather than host formula 2 the race was cancelled. It returned in 1955 with the return of formula one.
