Bad. Very bad. Fagin (notwithstanding Ron Moody's performance in Oliver!) is the consummate Jewish villian, created in a time of general anti-Semitism. His character in the book is contempible, avaricious, crawling, cringing, cowardly, and out for the main chance. His pedophilia is hinted at throughout the book, but never overtly stated. He is given no redeeming qualities by Dickens and readers are generally satisifed by the end of the book.
