Captain Eddie Rickenbacker of the US 94th Aero Pursuit Squadron shot down 26 enemy aircraft and balloons during the US involvement of WW 1. For his efforts he received the French Croix de' Guerre, the US Distinguished Service Cross and the US Congressional Medal of Honor. He was considered the Ace of Aces for the United States for WW1.
