=== === The SMLE (Short Magazine Lee-Enfield) rifle was the primary firearm carried by British soldiers during the First World War. It fired a .303 round from a stripper clip via a bolt action that allowed a well-trained soldier to fire "12 rounds, aimed" per minute.
A classic Battle Rifle, the Lee-Enfield was a fairly-long ranged, powerful weapon, and thanks to its wood and metal construction, large and rather heavy, especially when its long sword bayonet was fitted.
Its bulk and (relatively) slow rate of fire made was a somewhat inadequate weapon for the close confines of trenches and thus many British soldiers elected to carry Mills Bomb grenades, daggers and homemade clubs when going on night raids.
Some American soldiers carried a U.S. made variant of the Enfield when shortages of the 1903 Springfield arose.
=== === Designed by an American Army colonel named Lewis, the Lewis Gun was a light, drum-fed, air-cooled .303 machine gun. Served by a two to three man crew, the Lewis was a rugged reliable weapon ideal for supporting or repelling fast-moving infnatry attacks. It was also deployed in an anti-aircraft role, with about 2 guns per battalion being allotted to the task.
The Lewis was also used as an aircraft gun, used by backseaters in conjunction with the Scarff Ring machine gun mount and was also used a an upward-firing swivel gun by aces like Billy Bishop. (The Lewis on the Nieuport 17 and the SE5a was fitted un the upper wing and could be pivoted to fire upward or to reload.)
The .303 Vickers was large, belt-fed, water-cooled heavy machine gun used primarily in a static defensive role.
Like the Lewis, the Vickers saw servcie as an aircraft gun, with aircraft like the Sopwith Camel carrying two.
=== === Carried chiefly by officers, pilots, and support personnle the Webley was large, heavy revolver. It was reloaded by "breaking" the weapon in the middle.
Actually designed and built by Canadian Sir Henry Ross, and issued only to Canadian troops, the Ross Rifle worked its way into the hands of a few British sharpshooters. Its designed was considered to be poorly suited to trench conditions (some soldier reported that their Rosses were so shoddy that their bolts would rountinely fall out!). But the weapon was highly accurate and thus favored by snipers over the Lee-Enfield.
The Lee-Enfield, Vickers, and Webley all saw widespread service in the British Army during World War 2, and the Lewis was in the first months of WWII by other forces (the US gunboat Panaywas carrying at least two as anti-aircraft guns when it was attcked by Japanese bombers), but was phased out in favor of more modern weapons like the . .30 cal light machine gun and the Bren Gun.

The main infantry weapon was the bolt-action rifle for all sides, and machine guns as well. The modern hand grenade was also recently invented and used widely used during the war. WW1 also introduced trench warfare, which was where soilders dug ditches and used them for cover from enemy fire. Artillery was used, and for the first time poison gas was used on both sides, the most used being chlorine gas and mustard gas. Tanks and Airplanes also saw their debut in WW1, as did zeppelins(blimps).
The British Infantryman was armed with a British Lee/Enfield .303 caliber bolt action rifle.
I think a Kar98k was used in ww1 and ww2
