If a female mounts a male or a female mounts a female or a male mounts a male, it's because the top rabbit is asserting his or her dominance. She is saying, "I'm on top, so I'm better than you." This can be frusturating if you are trying to get them to breed. My friend is having this same problem with her pair of Tans right now. A breeder recommended feeding them something (I think it was wheat germ or something like that) mixed with honey.
They're happier if they have a friend! If you put 2 female rabbits together they tend to make friends but if you put 2 males together they usually fight.
Well, it depends on the breed, not usually the gender. Dwarf hamsters are known to be very territorial and bite A LOT. Especially two males together.
