On May 22, 1966, Bill Cosby became the first African-American actor to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He won for his performances during the 1965-1966 season as pro tennis trainer/American espionage agent Alexander Scott in NBC's "I Spy." Cosby, who was the first black actor to become a primary regular on a weekly dramatic series, won the award for the 1966-1967 and 1967-1968 seasons as well.
