That virus was written by two brothers who were trying to make a living selling software to honest people. They discovered one day that for every legal copy of a programs they sold up to ten other people were using the software. The virus the brothers wrote did not work if you used a legal copy of the program it only did damage when you copied the program 'for a friend to use'.

How did the first computer virus infected the computer?

A computer virus is a computer program that can replicate itself and spread from one computer to another. The first academic work on the theory of computer viruses (although the term "computer virus" was not used at that time) was done in 1949 by John Von Neumann who held lectures at the University of Illinois about the "Theory and Organization of Complicated Automata". A program called "Elk Cloner" was the first personal computer virus to appear "in the wild"-that is, outside the single computer or lab where it was created. Written in 1981 by Richard Skrenta it attached itself to the Apple Dos 3.3 operating system and spread via Floppy Disk. This virus, created as a practical joke when Skrenta was still in high school, was injected in a game on a floppy disk. On its 50th use the Elk Cloner virus would be activated, infecting the personal computer and displaying a short poem beginning "Elk Cloner: The program with a personality." - I hope I cleared up your question. -GrumpyThe1st

"The first PC virus in the wild was a boot sector virus dubbed (c)Brain[7], created in 1986 by the Farooq Alvi Brothers, operating out of Lahore, Pakistan, reportedly to deter piracy of the software they had written[citation needed]. However, analysts have claimed that the Ashar virus, a variant of Brain, possibly predated it based on code within the virus" - Wikipediahttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_virus

Why does myxomatosis only affect rabbits?

Myxomatosis is caused by the myxoma virus, a type of pox virus that only affects rabbits. It was first discovered in 1896 in Uruguay and was imported to Australia in 1951 to control its large rabbit populations - initially having the desired devastating effect. The disease was illegally introduced to France in 1952 and it appeared in Britain the following year. It quickly spread to both wild and domestic rabbit populations and within a few years had spread throughout Europe. Myxomatosis has been a threat to wild and domestic rabbits ever since.

What a virus cannot do on its own in computers?

Like a real world virus, computer viruses heavily rely on a "host" file in order to propagate. In the wild, if a computer virus cannot attach and inject itself into a host file, it will just roam around and eventually get destroyed by an antivirus program. Computer viruses cannot replicate without a host. Worms on the other hand are independent programs that can replicate freely without the need of a host like a virus. When it comes to lethality though, a virus is more destructive than a worm.
