The first FOUR people to land on the Moon were the two astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, of the Apollo 11 mission, and Pete Conrad and Alan Bean of the Apollo 12 mission.

In the Apollo series spacecraft. a crew of three would depart the Earth and enter Lunar orbit. Two of the astronauts would descend to the Moon in the Lunar Expedition Module, while the third astronaut would remain in the Command Module in orbit around the Moon. When the LEM left the Moon, it would dock with the Command Module, the two astronauts in the LEM would move back into the Command Module, and the LEM would be discarded as the Command Module returned to Earth.
