The lower atmosphere is mainly Carbon Dioxide CO2, and the upper atmosphere is a constant thick cloud cover of mainly Sulfur Dioxide SO2 and Sulfuric Acid H2SO4, a runaway greenhouse effect. The rocky surface is rugged, with meteor craters, active volcanoes and lava flows. The surface of Venus is a fairly good approximation of the medieval concept of Hell.
