There are two Hartford's Hartford, Connecticut and Hartford, Michigan
About 100 Puritans, led by the Rev. Thomas Hooker, created a settlement on the banks of the Connecticut River in June 1636. Though this became Hartford, Hooker and his followers were not the first Europeans on the scene.
The Puritan minister Thomas Hooker is known as the founder of Hartford, CT in 1637, along with Samuel Stone and former Massachusetts governor John Haynes, who became the first governor of the Connecticut Colony.

Thomas Hooker founded Hartford. He was a Puritan of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, but started to disagree with some of the Puritans in Massachusetts. He decided to go start a new colony, Connecticut.
