we need elections so that if the existing power is not ruling properly or not fulfilling the wishes of its people ,the people can change the existing ruler with their choice of party or leader. I want to give an example, when Salvador Allende was killed due to military attack then general Augusto Pinochet ruled Chile. to get the highest votes he indeed used many abuse and dirty tricks to win the elections. so we need elections so that any false power or wrong power cannot rule any longer. people can elect the representatives the like...
In order to answer this question one could ask another question, namely how can citizens participate effectively when the number of citizens becomes too numerous or too widely dispersed geographically for them to participate conveniently in making laws by assembling in one place? How best to meet this democratic requirements in a political unit as large as a country is enormously diffcult. Yet this can serve as a standard for evaluating alternative possibilities and solutions. the requirements can not be met if th top officials of the government couls det the agenda and adopt policies indepentendly of the wishes of the citizens. The only feasible soulution is for citizens to elect their top officials and hold them more or less accountable through elections bydismissing them, so to speak, in subsequent elections.
