Low freon charge and faulty CCRM (Constant Control Relay Module).
I do not know of any freon diagrams. I would not recommend trying to charge your air conditioning sytem; it is very complex and the system is under high pressure. Take your car to a professional.

You would charge it from the low side port.
Check freon charge.
It was built to hold 34 ounces of R12. It will need retrofitted to R134a. After that the capacity will be about 90 percent of the old charge.
Follow the line from the receiver/dryer (On the passenger side of the firewall, looks like a metal bottle with lines running into it) towards the compressor. You can't charge your year of Escort without getting the special fittings from Ford.
