Best Answer

Oxytocin stimulates the uterine muscles to contract and also increases the production of prostaglandins, which increase the contractions further. Manufactured oxytocin is sometimes given to induce labour if it has not started naturally or it can be used to strengthen contractions to aid childbirth.

The hormone oxytocin aids the birth process by stimulating?

To stimulate uterine contraction.

What hormone stimulates the contraction of the muscles in the uterus and secretion of milk in the mammary gland?

Uterine contractions are stimulated by the release of Oxytocin a hypothalamic hormone which has uterine contracting and milk releasing actions.

Which gland releases hormones into the bloodstream that aid in the stimulation of uterine contraction?

The pituitary releases oxytocin into the bloodstream to stimulate uterine contraction. This process is one of the few endocrine processes that relies on a positive feedback loop.

What hormone made by the hypothalamus causes uterine contraction during childbirth and milk let-down when a baby is nursing?

Oxytocin

Does oxytocin prevents premature births?

No oxytocin is used to stimulate labor. In humans, oxytocin stimulates milk let down during lactation, uterine contraction during birth and is released during sexual orgasm in both men and women.

What are the organ and system involved when uterine contraction occurs?

uterus is the organ and reproductive/endocrine system cause the contraction (hormone-oxytocin is released in the body that causes the contractions to occur. If a woman is induced for labor pitocin is given which is the "man made" form of oxytocin

The target tissue for oxytocin are the?

I will quote John E. Morley, MB, BCh for this one:Oxytocin has 2 major targets: the myoepithelial cells of the breast, which surround the alveoli of the mammary gland, and the smooth muscle cells of the uterus. Suckling stimulates the production of oxytocin, which causes the myoepithelial cells to contract. This contraction causes milk to move from the alveoli to large sinuses for ejection (ie, the milk letdown reflex of nursing mothers).Oxytocin stimulates contraction of uterine smooth muscle cells, and uterine sensitivity to oxytocin increases throughout pregnancy. However, plasma levels do not increase sharply during parturition, and the role of oxytocin in the initiation of labor is unclear. There is no recognized stimulus for oxytocin release in men, although men have extremely low levels.

Oxytocin is a strong stimulant of uterine contractions.?

Ture

What hormone stimulates uterine contractions for the birth process?

Oxytocin

What organ causes uterine contractions?

Oxytocin causes the uterus to contract. Oxytocin is released by the posterior pituitary gland.

What hormones are regulated by positive feedback under certain circumstances?

Oxytocin in the process of giving birth. Oxytocin causes uterine contraction, which causes the baby to push up against the cervix, which causes more oxytocin to be released. And the cycle continues until the baby is born.

What stimulates contractions in uterine smooth muscle during labor?

Oxytocin
