From what age can you sex a rabbit?

When male rabbits are born, their testicles are inside their abdomen. At about 4-5 months of age, the testicles drop in the scrotum. At this point, it should be easy to tell if the rabbit is male. However, if the rabbit is frightened, it can pull its testicles back into its abdomen; also, if a rabbit is neutered, there will be no testicles. It can be difficult to tell if a rabbit is male or female.

The rabbit needs to be at least 4-5 weeks old before it can be accurately sexed without a great deal of experience. Even at this age, it can still be difficult.

With young rabbits, cradle the rabbit like a baby. Gently spread its legs and then carefully spread the genitals. Very carefully pull down the upper part of the genitals until the genitals pop up. Female genitals will look like a slit. Male genitals will pop up and look like a tube.

They can be sexed after 3-4 weeks. What you should do is try to protrude the penis and if you could that is male. For female too you will see a small protrusion like males but that is uneven and the base is attached caudally.

You can start to sex them at around 6/7 weeks old but its very difficult and it may be wrong there are never certain answers at this age so it would be advised to take to the yet but even then they can be wrong too but at around 4/5months you can tell because the male rabbits start to have pink sacs (Their testicle's)

You can successfully sex baby rabbits at 4-5 weeks, all it takes is practice. If you wait until your rabbits are 4 to 5 months old to sex and separate them you are going to have unwanted pregnancies because some rabbits will reproduce at 4 to 5 months old. This is not good as they are too young and using a buck before he has reached his minimum adult weight could stunt his growth. A doe having babies before she has reached minimum adult weight could cause problems during kindling (giving birth) and she could die.

Rabbits will breed at between 3 months and 4 months, but this is a VERY bad idea. Rabbits should not be bred until they are at least 6 months old and reach mature adult weight. Breeding them before 6 months could stunt their growth and harm the doe during childbirth. Every rabbit sould have it's own cage and the doe should be taken to the bucks cage and removed after breeding takes place.
