well, in chapter 9 right before the rumble, he asks people why they like to fight. he then said he only likes to fight for self defense. Although, another time in the book, i believe pony boy said that he wanted to fight for johnny (what page can someone? Can someone answer!). There is also a quote that he says which is " I'll fight anyone anytime but I don't like to"
