The biggest difference between laboratory refrigerators and regular household refrigerators is that lab fridges are specifically designed with explosion hazards in mind. They generally go to greater lengths to make sure no spark could ignite flammable vapors around or inside them. Sometimes the door for a lab fridge latches or even locks instead of relying on a magnetic seal the way most household fridges do.
