The inner chamber of a classical Greek temple is known as the 'naos' in Greek, or also 'cella' in Latin.

There are tens of further details, but here are a few:1) The Temple Mount surrounded the Courtyard and the Temple itself and had a lower degree of holiness.2) The Temple Courtyard was where the Israelites would congregate during festivals and at other times.3) The eastern section of the Courtyard was where women would congregate. In its four corners were four large chambers for various purposes.4) The westernmost section of the Courtyard contained the outer altar. It was in that area of the Courtyard that the Kohanim would congregate and perform their duties.5) The Temple itself, which was to the west of the altar, had three sections.a) The outer section was the portico, which had few functions.b) The middle section was the outer room of the Temple, and held the Table of showbread, the candelabrum (menorah), and the inner altar.c) The innermost section was the Holy of Holies, which housed the Holy Ark with the Ten Commandments.
