The United States presidential election of 2016 was held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.
Under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act (2011), a general election must occur five years after the previous election. Before the act, the Prime Minister decided on the date, as long as it was no longer than five years after the previous election.

As with most Commonwealth countries that have not changed their electoral laws from the basic principles of the UK, a general election must be held once every five years in Jamaica.
