Very competitive. The number of applications each year is about 22,000 for about 1,500 spots; the admissions rate is 19%. Ranked 6th in "Toughest to Get Into" by The Princeton Review and "Most Selective" by the US News, the university seeks applicants who have demonstrated leadership, passion, and commitment in their extracurricular activities (See http://admissions.wustl.edu/faq/Pages/ProspectiveFreshmen.aspx). Admitted applicants tend to have very strong academic credentials, with 90% of the incoming class being in the top 10% of their graduating class. The school also has the 4th most number of National Merit Scholars of all US colleges according to National Merit Scholar Corp. These statistics suggest that applicants need to have highly competitive academic scores and be successful in their extracurriculars to be admitted.
