Give a Biblical proof that Judas repented of betraying his master?

"Then when Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that He had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders..." (Matt. 27:3 NASB)

Remember The Bible is a translation and there are many translations and interpretations. The NASB and NIV refer to Judas as feeling "remorse." But in the KJV:

"Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders..." (Matt. 27:3 KJV) And also in the NRSV: "When Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he repented and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders." (Matt. 27:3 NRSV) The reason for different wording in the various translations is significant. In the original Greek the word translated "repented himself" (KJV), "was remorseful" (NKJV), "felt remorse" (NASB), and "seized with remorse" (NIV) is a compound word, metamellomai, meaning "a care to one afterwards." On the other hand, the Greek word for "repent" [as used in Matthew 11:20 - Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent:] is metanoeo, meaning "to change ones mind for the better." There is a huge difference between the two meanings. Paul explains the difference this way: 2 Corinthians 7:9, 10 -Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. By its very definition, true repentance could NOT have led to suicide (Matthew 27:5); so Judas did not REPENT of betraying Jesus, he REGRETTED doing it. Peter, on the other hand, exemplifies godly sorrow producing repentance. Remember that he had blatantly denied knowing Jesus -- swearing it with curses (Matthew 26:74) -- yet he experienced godly sorrow (Matthew 26:75), repented and was restored. Judas experienced the sorrow of the world; he regretted, and he took his own life.
