Give 2 examples of passive transport?

Passive transport is when molecules pass freely through the membrane moving from the higher concentration area to the region of lower concentration. Three examples of this are diffusion, osmosis, and active transport.

Explain the difference between passive transport and active transport Give several types of each and explain how they work?

when molecule travels from a higher concentration to a lower concentration through a concentration gradient. It is known as passive transport. Active transport refers to when molecule travels from a region of lower concentration to a region of higher concentration against the concentration gradiet. Transport of protein is an active transport. Fit it in the sentence your way

What are some Real life examples of active transport?

Engulfing, protein transfer, and ill get back to y'all on the last one lol ^^^ Those aren't really examples of active transport, just names of characteristics of an active transport. Active transport is the movement of ions or molecules across a cell membrane into a region of higher concentration, assisted by enzymes and requiring energy. Endocytosis-A process in which a cell takes in materials from the outside by engulfing and fusing them with its plasma membrane. There are two types of endocytosis, called phagocytosis, which means cell-eating, and pinocytosis, which means cell-drinking. Sodium-Potassium Pump-Nerve cell membranes also contain carrier proteins that actively transport sodium ions out of the cell and potassiu ions into the cell.

Give two differences between active transport and passive transport?

Active transport requires energy, passive transport just happens. If there is more of a certain molecule on one side of a membrane than the other, molecules that CAN fit through the membrane will do, so the concentration will even itself out. No work has to be done to achieve this. SO when you breathe in, oxygen just diffuses across from the air into your blood, because there's plenty of it in the air. But if a plant needs to get say magnesium from the soil (which it needs to make chlorophyll) then it is not going to get much by diffusion, because there's not much in the soil and probably more in the plant. It will need to use active transport ie a protein in the cell wall will pick up the substance wanted and flip it into the cell, and this costs the cell some energy.

Why is active transport of molecules necessary?

To move substances from low to high concentration.

Give the factors that determine the turgidity of the cells?

There are many factors that determine the turgidity, or structure, of a cell. These factors include the amount of water present in the cell, a semi-permeable membrane of the cell, and formation of an osmotically active substance within the cell.
