There are more good sides than bad sides. Medicines, food supplies, crime investigations, products for daily usage (the plastic for your TV didnt make itself!)
The downsides are that some man created chemicals are very bad for people, animals and the nature. Drugs like XTC and LSD also come from Chemistry and cant exactly be called a good side. Not even to mention bombs and other war materials!
