There were several factors that converged that made it possible to Italy to be the cradle of Renaissance. One of the most important was the economic factor. Florence, the most remarkable Italian cities for Renaissance was at the crossroads of a trading route, making the city flourish, which converted it in an adequate breeding ground for the arts. Another factor was the influence of Greek culture scholars, who settled in that city after the fall of Constantinople.

I'm pretty sure the Renaissance began in Italy because that country was one of the richest, or the richest, countries in all of Europe. Also, there were many rich families in Italy that were involved with banking, suck as the Medici family.

These might be the most important three reasons the Renaissance began in Italy:

  1. Italy had a number of port cities and was centrally located in the Mediterranean. This contributed to the wealth of the area.
  2. Italy had a large number of independent cities, many of which had republican governments lead by families that were competing for leadership, both in government and in society. These families included many patrons of the arts.
  3. The people of Italy had the constant reminder of the greatness of ancient Rome before them in the art and architecture that survived. They aspired to recreate this greatness in their own times.

There is a link to an article on the Italian Renaissance below.

One thing to remember about the Italian Renaissance is that it began some time around the year 1300, with some historians placing the beginnings a few years earlier. It did not depend on the fall of Constantinople or the invention of movable type, both of which happened about 150 years after the Renaissance started. The Renaissance did not start when the Middle Ages ended, and there was a time from about 1300 to about 1450 or 1500 that is assigned to both periods.
