If you filed for an extension on your 2008 taxes what date do you have to file after that?

You can file your taxes anytime after your extension, be sure to file before October 15th of that filing year. You may suffer penalties and interest higher than what you would have if you filed by that date. Also, remember to at least pay something with your extension to show the IRS that you have intentions of paying your federal liability. It is best to pay as much as you can to pay down the debt.

If you owe taxes how do you file an extension?

To get a federal extension, file Form 4868. It must be postmarked by April 15. You should try to pay as much as possible with the extension. Any amount you don't pay will be charged interest. If you don't pay at least 90% of your tax by April 15, you will also pay a penalty of 0.5% per month or partial month. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4868.pdf Check your state instructions or web site for information about state extensions. Remember, if you owe money, you must file your return or an extension on time. The penalty for filing a return late is TEN TIMES the penalty for not paying.

How do you request an extension of the deadline for filing your tax return?

You can get an automatic six-month extension of the deadline for filing your income tax return. To request an extension, submit Form 4868 (Application for Extension of Time to File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return). It's important to remember that the extension gives you extra time for getting your tax return in order for the IRS. But it doesn't extend the time you have to pay tax due (if you're not getting a refund). Any amount not paid by the April deadline is assessed interest. A late payment penalty is charged if you haven't paid at least 90 percentof your total tax by the April deadline. If your return is completed but you can't pay the full amount of tax due, the IRS wants you to file your return on time and pay as much as you can at that time.

How much tax is paid when filing an extension?

For your federal extension, you must try to estimate, to the best of your ability how much you owe. If you don't think you will owe anything or if you think you will be getting a refund, you don't have to send anything. If you sent too much, you'll get a refund when you file your return. If you sent too little, interest will be assessed on the amount unpaid after April 15. The current interest rate is 4% per year. In addition, a failure to pay penalty of 0.5% per month or partial month will be assessed. If you pay at least 90% of the tax due by April 15 and then file your return and pay the rest by October 15, then the failure to pay penalty will be waived.

How much money do you have to make you have to file pa taxes?

You can file regardless of how much money you make. In fact you should file if you had any taxes withheld from your salary since that is the only way to get a refund. You probably want to know how much you can make before you *have to* file. The number in PA is astonishingly small. You have to file if you have at least $33 in taxable PA income.

File for an extension for 1099?

If you are issuing Form 1099 to your payees, you can get an extension to file the IRS copy by completing Form 8809. But if did not request the first automatic extension, it is too late now to ask for one. If you mean you received a 1099 from someone who paid you money (or you are waiting to receive one), anyone can get an automatic six month extension to file their individual income tax return by filing Form 4868 by April 15. But if you do not pay your taxes, interest and possibly penalties start on April 16 whether or not you have an extension, so you have to take your best guess as to how much you owe and send that in with the extension form.

What does the extention on a computer file name indicate?

The file name EXTENSION (spelling counts in Web searches!) identifies the format of the file and the program that should normally open it. For example, a file with extension .DOC is in Word 97-2004 format and should normally be opened by Microsoft Word. Many programs can open files that are normally opened by another program. For example, most word processors can open .DOC files - a market requirement because there are so many Word users. To do this, it may be necessary to modify system settings (the software may provide users help in doing this) or to launch the application first, then open the file from within it. File name extensions were originally limited to three characters in DOS. Early versions of Windows, which were built on a DOS core, continued this limitation. Many extensions are longer today, such as the .DOCX format for Word documents introduced with Word 2007/2008*. Prior to OS X, the Mac OS did not use file extensions though it allowed them so files could be easily exchanged with DOS/Windows systems. It used internal "type" and "creator" data instead. With the introduction of OS X, the Mac OS uses them in much the same was as do Windows systems: to select the default program to open a file. _____________________________ *Word 2007 is the Windows version; 2008 is the Mac OS version.

What are the elements of a file name?

By "file name", I assume you mean a path on a computer. At it's basic, a file name is composed of the name, and usually an extension. E.g. "Hello.txt". This files name is "Hello", and it's extension is ".txt". The extension helps the operating system know what to open it with. For example, on a Windows OS, the ".txt" extension (by default) makes Notepad open the file. If you made a file and gave it a random extension, such as ".foobarfile1", the computer doesn't know what to open it with. This will normally bring up a dialog requesting which program should be used to open the file.A Path is very similar to a file name, but it includes the drive and directory tree. For example, a file called "Hello.txt" in My Documents would look like "C:\Users\\Documents\Hello.txt". This method of showing file names is called "absolute". It is an unambiguous location. In the above path, "C:" is the drive name, then each word between "" marks is a directory. So to navigate to the file in Windows Explorer, you would open up My Computer, open C:\, the directory Users etc. There are also relative path, such as "..\Hello.txt". This navigates from the current directory to the "parent" directory (the directory containing the one you are currently in) and accesses "Hello.txt" within that. This type of path is more complex, but has the advantage that you don't need to know the drive name and nearby directories to navigate to your files. I don't think relative paths have much use outside of developing programmes that read files though.I hope this has answered your question, but to conclude, a file name contains the Name of the file (which makes it unique) and it's extension (which determines which program opens it). Finally, a path is a longer string, declaring exactly where the file is, or where it is relative to the current directory.Again, I hope this helps,Hnefatl
