Guinea pigs were originated in South America.Their scientific name is Cavia Porcellus.They are rodents and not related to Pigs in anyway.

They have about 20 teeths.They have four toes on front feet and three toes on back feet,altogether they have 14 toes.

There are about 25 different breeds of Guinea Pig.Some are short haired,Some are long haired and some don't have fur at all.

They like fruits and vegetables as treats.They need constant supply of hay.They need additional supply of Vitamin C or they will get a disease called scurvy.

They eat their own poops.But,it is not really poops,it is different from their original poops.It is soft and mostly greenish color.It contains Vitamins and they re-digest it.

They are also known as Cavies.They squeaks for food and can make many sounds.

In wild they live in groups in burrows or rocks.As pets too,they should be kept in pairs.

Guinea pigs are herbivores.
