You're thinking of the siege of the Branch Davidian compound at Mount Carmel which lasted from February to April of 1993. After a botched raid by the BATF, a standoff ensued, which ultimately ended up with the FBI trying to flush the Branch Davidians out using an M728 CEV modified to dispense CS tear gas, and David Koresh ordering the incineration of the compound at Mount Carmel. The incident has done much to fuel the imaginations of conspiracy theorists, particularly far right anti-government sorts.
