For example: Accidental discharge of firearms: 642 deaths in 2006 Intentional self-harm(suicide) by discharge of firearms.: 16,883 Assault(homicide)by discharge of firearms.: 12,791 Discharge of firearms, undetermined intent.: 220 If you count all of these and If I didn't miss any categories, there were 30,536 gun-related deaths in 2006. This is out of 2,426,264 deaths in 2006 for all causes. So about 1.3% of deaths that year were gun related.
