Hair is required to be very short in the Marine Corps. There are numerous reasons for it. One is health and sanitation. Another is that it prevents it being used as a handle by the enemy in a hand to hand fight.
No.
Cutting their hair. lol.........being in prison.
No women marines don't have to cut their hair, but they must put it in a tight bun when out in the field. However it is much eaiser for them if they cut it short, or even buzz it off, as it takes less time to be ready and your drill sergant will love you for it as he doesn't have to check your hair every morning.
The collective noun is a muscle of marines.

Aesthetics:Short hair looks smarter and tidier.Practicality:US Marines are predominantly Infantry soldiers. As such they may have to spend long durations in the field away from washing and bathing facilities and as such having shorter hair will probably be more hygienic.Shorter hair is less likely to become entangled in undergrowth or barbed wire.Shorter hair is unlikely to obscure your vision unlike long hair.Short air cannot be grabbed in hand to hand combat.Marines may be required to fight in a CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) environment. As such long hair and stubble can interfere with the seal of a gas mask or respirator. The consequences of which may potentially prove fatal.
