The guys wore three main types; like William Holden, Jimmy Dean or young Elvis with lots of grease and down over one eye, or a flat top or a Marine brushcut.

The gals wore their hair sleek and smooth like Grace Kelly, or medium to shoulder fluffed a bit like a young Marilyn or Elizabeth Taylor, or a short clipped pixie like Audrey Hepburn, Leslie Caron, or Shirley McLaine in the Apartment.

There was certainly a bigger variety, but these were the most popular. The decade starts with hokie June Allison, Doris Day flips and pony tails were popular throughout with teens; the teased up bee hives started around 1960.
