There is no need to build a fence in Tree of Tranquility. Your animals will not wander off without you and there are no wild dogs or anything that will disturb them outside.
You automatically get a field (with a few white picket fences for aesthetic pleasure) when you build a Barn.
You can build a Barn by going and talking to Dale at his carpentry. =)
You need 12 lumber and 12 stones to build. You can cut down trees and break rocks, but they take almost all your energy. It's good to focus on one tree at a time.
