There have been no reported deaths as a result of a koala attack. Koalas do not attack; they only defend themselves against threats such as dogs, and they rarely survive attacks from such predators.
The creature responsible for the most koala deaths are domestic dogs. Man insists on clearing prime koala habitat for his suburban housing estates, meaning some of the koalas' territory remains. Koalas do not stay in a single tree all the time: they move between the trees in their home range. Too many people do not supervise their dogs, meaning koalas are often attacked while on the ground, between their home trees.
It is illegal to capture, hurt or kill koalas in any way. Koalas are protected by law. However, they do get killed - by domestic dogs, by cars, by bushfires, and by people bent on inflicting cruelty to innocent animals.
