Has anyone continued Marco Polo's explorations?

YES, I Harry Rutstein, became the first person in history to follow his accurately researched 13,000-mile journey from Venice to Beijing in three expeditions. The first conducted in 1975 starting at the beginning of July in Venice, Italy across the Mediteranean to Israel, across Turkey, Iran and Afghanistan, ending in the Hindu Kush Mountains. The winter snows blocked all the passes to Pakistan and I still had not received my vias to cross the Kunjerab Pass into China. Our second expedition in 1981 resulted in a film entitled "On the Roof of the World with Marco Polo." Finally, with the help of Vice President George H. W. Bush I obtained the long sought after visa to enter China. On August 15, 1985 I became the first western person to cross China's western border and on October 22, 1985 I became the first person to authentically Marco Polo's journey to China as was confirmed by the Royal Geographical Society.

Also, 1n 1987 there was the Marco Polo Expedition led by Richard B Fisher who traced most, but not all of Marco Polo's route.
