It typically puts very specific images into the minds of girls as to what is considered "beautiful." They then use these images to compare themselves and unfortunately in many instances, it can cause negative results, such as body image issues, eating disorders and low self esteem because these young ladies believe that if they do not look like the women in the magazines, billboards and on the catwalk, they themselves are not beautiful. Additionally, girls tend to lack understanding that the modeling world is make believe and that no such image of perfection/beauty really exists. Not seeing that fine line between reality and make believe is what influences some girls to try and achieve a physical appearance that is not real and is instead manufactured by the industry to sell its products.
