No it did not Galileo discovered it but he thought it was a star then two scientists that I do not recall the name of predicted there was a planet in that region but they always thought it was a star so when they sent Voyager 2 out it was a planet.

As of late 2012 ... 35 years after launch ... the spacecraft was still receiving

commands and transmitting data to the Deep Space Network on Earth.

yup.., definitely.., but the type of Voyager 2 is a flyby only.., it didn't land on the Neptune because Neptune is a gas giant.... :)
