Need to replace the ignition switch.
I had the same problem with a 1992 Park Avenue with the 3800 engine. I first replaced the electronic ignition but that did not fix the problem. I then replaced the crankshaft heat sensor. That fixed my problem.
ford escort?
sounds like a fuel problem change the fuel filter first
I have just came up on this same problem with my 2000 Kia. Turns out it was the Ignition switch. $160.00 to have it replaced.
Had same problem with 1998 ford contour gl. Replaced transmission range sensor and problem stopped.
could be the magnetic pick-up in your distributor, I replaced mine and it solved the problem.
The oxygen censor may be causing this problem. If this isn't the case then there may a problem with the coil pack.
Sounds like your theft deterent system is engaged; for that you will need to go to the dealer (tow car to dealer). My 1996 had the same problem. They will have to replace the module in the dash or re-work it.
VW Polo Classic 1999. Starts OK but cuts out almost immediately. No history or warning of problem - just arose out of the blue one evening. Turned that the fuse controlling the brake-lights had blown. Replaced fuse; car starts no problem.
The problem is almost definitely your neutral safety switch. When you jump the solenoid you are bypassing it. The problem is your starter is going and needs replacement
I HAVE A 1999 FORD ESCORT, THERMOSTAT WAS RECENTLY CHANGED & AN OIL CHANGE WAS DONE, NOW THE CAR STARTS THEN CUTS OUT & NOW WILL NOT START AGAIN, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? check your mass air flow sensor on the air intake tube off your air box. sometimes ppl forget to plug it back in. without it the engine doesnt know how much air its getting an wont stay running.
The fuel system is blocked.Clean up the injectors.
