Remington
Remington used a series of letters stamped on the barrel to indicate month and date of manufacture. IF the barrel is original to the gun, that should give you a pretty close answer. Letters are on the left side, just forward of the receiver. The Remington Collectors website has a chart of the letters, and the corresponding years.
Which ones? The barrel? That's a date code. Check Remington Society of America - manufactured date link.
The ones on the left side of the barrel by receiver are the date of manufacture code see related links for information on the Remington Society of America.
The letters KL can stand for 2 dates.Either May of 1942,or May of 1964.You will have to decide which of these 2 dates apply to the Remington in question.
Just guessing- since you did not give us a brand name- Remington 552? If so, Remington;s are dated by a letter barrel code- 2 or 3 very small letters, LEFT side of barrel, just ahead of reciever. Please repost with BRAND of rifle, and if Remington, the letters.
The letters kxx represents the letter date code used by Remington to Identify when there firearms are produced. In your case the letter K represents the month of May,and the letters xx represent the year 1951.So your Remington model 550-1 was made in May,1951.I hope that you find this info helpful.
Remington firearms are dated from a 2 or 3 LETTER code stamped on the left side of the barrel, very close to the frame. The Remington Collector Society webpage has the table of letters and years.
October 1947.
Remington didn't make a model 55 rifle, nylon or otherwise. Autoloader, lever, or Bolt, Clip or Tub, letters on left side of barrel?
There are date codes stamped on the barrel. If you go to the Remington Society of America's page here it has a picture of where their location is and how to interpret the letters. http://remingtonsociety.com/rsa/questions/barrelcodes
Remington firearms are dated by using a 2 or 3 LETTER code stamped on the barrels, not by a serial number. This is a link to the Remington Collector's website showing the letters and their location on the barrel. Good luck! https://www.remingtonsociety.org/manufacture-dates/
