Although medical doctors that kill are not new, they are in the minority. America's 19th century Dr. Mudgett and late 20th century's Dr. Michael Swango are Harold Shipman's equals. But as to an actual copycat crime spree like Shipman's I could find no information on the subject.

What finally raised eyebrows was the number of death certificates that Shipman was signing. His patients were dying at an alarming rate, while other physician's patient death rates remained the same.

An investigation was launched, and it was discovered that Shipman had been forging prescriptions and administering lethal doses of drugs to his patients.
