Hearing in humans, and most animals - vibration of the conducting medium (very often air) is converted to vibration of one or more parts of the skull - in humans, the ear drum and then the bones of the inner ear, this is then converted to an electrical signal (nerve impulse) that is detected and interpreted by the brain. A fluid is anything that flows, so air is a fluid.
