Hello Dinesh. Sorry to hear about this.You don't need to worry that much. What your son has is involuntary jerking of the legs during sleep which is also called periodic leg/limb movement disorder. (PLMD) This happens in the first stage of sleep.Legs ,hip,feet and knees may jerk involuntarily. In some people it can also happen in arms and hands.Movements usually last no longer than 10 seconds.This is different from restless leg syndrom that happens when you are awake.According to the American Sleep Association, approximately 80 percent of people who have restless leg syndrom also have PLMD.The causes of PLMD is not known.but sertain conditions and medications can cause it such as low iron levels, kidney disease,vit B12 deficiency, taking certain antideppressants, litium, anti nausea medications .
