Clostridium tetani is one of the most poisonous biological substances known. It produces neurotoxins that enter nerve cells and block neurotransmitters. A very tiny amount of these substances can cause severe muscle disorders and respiratory complications that result in death. We call this disease tetanus.

People can become infected with Clostridium tetanithrough a puncture wound or a dirty needle and it is placed just where this anaerobic bacteria loves to be. They are deposited deep into the skin and far from oxygen that would kill it.

Heroin addicts have a high incidence of clostridium tetani infections due to the fact that many addicts use dirty needles. The veins of the addict are usually damaged due to repeated use of needles. Heroin addicts also care very little about themselves and therefore do not have good hygiene practices.
