What did the discovery of the Rosetta stone lead to?

The discovery of the Rosetta Stone lead to the people to it, approximately 1930 BC, every Canaanite, Egyptian, and the Greeks could read what the Rosetta Stone had said we couldn't necessarily read it until it was discovered i don't remember by who but when it was, we found out what it said That's what the discovery of the Rosetta Stone lead to how it is today. Additional Info: The main 'benefit' or knowledge gained by decoding the Rosetta Stone was being able to decipher hieroglyphics. Up until the discovery of the Rosetta Stone, it was assumed that hieroglyphics was a pictographic language, i.e. a picture of a bird represented the word 'bird'. However, after the discovery (and subsequent translating) of the Rosetta Stone, it was determined that hieroglyphics was a phonetic alphabet, where a picture of a bird might stand for the character "B" (that's not accurate, I'm just making an example). If you have ever used Wingdings in word before, you get the idea of what hieroglyphics are: a pictographic symbol that represents a single character.

How were hieroglyphics invented?

Hieroglyphics were invented when the Ancient Egyptians used pictures in wall paintings, in tombs, scrolls etc. It evolved into a type of alphabet used in everyday life until Ancient Egyptian civilization collapsed.W907

How did hieroglyphics come about and how did they help early man?

Early man (around 160,000 years ago) did not have any form of writing, so hieroglyphics didn't help them. Hieroglyphics weren't invented by the Egyptians until sometime after 4000 BCE. They came about because the Egyptians wanted to keep written records based on their language.

How was the Rossetta stone decoded?

As stone was written in old Hieroglyphics and new hieroglyphics no one knew what it said. Until they saw at the bottom of it, it was written in Greek as well, so then a French codebreaker who knew Greek cracked the meanings in hieroglyphics. And read the stone and found out what it meant.

What is the Rosetta stone and how has it helped your understanding?

The Rosetta Stone is a stone tablet that has a King's decree inscribed on it in three languages. The three repetitions are Greek, a later Egyptian and ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics written one above another. Because it has essentially the same text written in three languages it was the key to translating ancient hieroglyphics which, until the discovery and translation of this writing, was a cryptic mystery.

In Egypt an officer of Napoleons engineering corpse discovered?

Pierre-François-Xavier Bouchard discovered the Rosetta Stone in July 1799. He was an engineering officer in Napoleon's Commission des Sciences et des Arts. The Stone was found as French soldiers were enforcing Fort Julien, a city northeast of Egyptian city Rosetta, which is today known as Rashid. The Rosetta Stone was the key to understanding Egyptian hieroglyphics, which had been studied in modern terms but never translated until that point. It has almost the exact same text written in Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, Demotic script, and Ancient Greek. It was not fully translated until 1822.
