FYI - I had a bad alternator. Apparently, a failed alternator may/can/will cause the battery AND brake warning lamps to come on. Alternator has been replaced, and all warning lamps cleared.
The alternator switches off
Not all the time. The alternator warning circuit wiring to the instrument panel could be grounded
yes if one of the wires was getting an earth from the alternator cover or rubbing off the engine the battery light is really an alternator light warning you that the alternator is not charging the battery
Your alternator is defective and not recharging the battery. Have the alternator checked.
There are several signs that an alternator is going bad. A few signs are dim lights, smell, warning lights, and a dead battery.
The alternator/generator is not charging.
Could be the alternator is not charing correctly.
Sounds to be alternator. Take somewhere to have the charging system tested.
If you mean all the warning lights come on at once this usually indacates the alternator is bad. It is either under or over charging (usually under) is a typical Toyota sign of an alternator going out.
Some vehicles have an external voltage regulator which also controls the warning lamp circuit, some vehicles have a warning lamp relay and others may operate through a computor, all of which require a signal from the alternator. You either have a faulty regulator/relay/computor, A broken signal wire from alternator, alternator is incorrectly wired or a faulty/incorrect type of alternator
The charging warning light should automatically reset if the battery is disconnected. Check the battery cables and ensure they are properly connected. Also check the alternator connections. If the light is still on there may be a problem with the new alternator.
