While this question theoretically has an answer, we don't know what it is, and no one is particularly interested in finding out. There are lots of very long period comets with multi-thousand or even million year orbits.
The last time that comet hale bopp was here was around 1996 and 1997.

The comet did appear on 20 March 1066, the same year as the battle. It is entirely plausible that this comet in particular was the one apparent to Harold and his advisors.

i was born that day :) but i googled it and it said Haley bopp (the comet) was the brightest it ever was

The comet was named Shoemaker-Levy 9 - after the discoverers Carolyn & Eugene Shoemaker, and David Levy ! They discovered it orbiting Jupiter on March 24, 1993.
The first day of spring in 1996 is March 20, 1996.
